Looks like I wasn't as enamored by this place as everyone else. We came here on a Sunday, and were seated quickly. The service was friendly. The place is cute. But the food just wasn't very impressive - especially not for the high prices. I read that people raved about the coffee, but we thought it was surprisingly weak. We ordered Huevos Rancheros for $7.99 and Eggs Florentine for $9.99 which do not include fruit, toast, or potatoes. Sides cost an extra $2 each and you get maybe half a cup. The Eggs Florentine was decent, but severely undersalted. The Huevos Rancheros was dissapointing. This is perhaps my favorite breakfast dish, so I've had it dozens of times. This place just puts some black beans, rice, and eggs on a dry tortilla and calls it Huevos Rancheros. Where is the tomato sauce? Avocado? Cilantro? It was very plain. I probably won't make a special trip out here again.

I had a very bad experience at this place. We were a group of 6 and they made us wait for an hour and a half before we got our orders, which were nothing fancy just some omelettes. To add insult to injury , the waitress Shianne was very rude and had a huge attitude problem.. She did not apologise for the delay and when we asked for separate checks she told us we should have told her before, however she had never even asked us. In all, bad service, ok food and a place I would never ever recommend to anyone. Please stick to waffle shop or cracker barrel is my advice.

This is by far my family's choice of the best breakfast in the State College area. Get here early, it fills up fast because it's that good. They have excellent french toast, pancakes, breakfast burritos and specialty coffees and teas. Ah, Earl Grey. My wife and I have also gone here for "second breakfasts" at lunch time during the work week. The service folks are friendly and fast. Why go anywhere else?

Diamond pulled from the mountain!! This face-lifted establishment has fantastic Espresso, fair trade coffee and if you are fortunate enough you will get a surprise animal drawn on the foam. Ordered the salmon benedict for the home made Sause. I'll be back and will be my hotshot when I'm back in town.

The place is a bit small and has some limited seating so be prepared to wait if you don't get there early or during a down time. I went here based on all the reviews and while the food was good, the portions were underwhelming and I thought it was a little pricey for what you get. The Eggs Benedict was good as others have said. I got a side of home fries and they were OK but were a bit cold. I didn't bother to ask for them to be heated. The side was pretty small as well. I would come here again if friends wanted to go but it wouldnt be my first choice.

This adorable little joint had a great selection of fresh and staple breakfast options. I had the eggs Benedict florentine and it was delicious. I had gone on a Sunday morning and it was very crowded - and although the wait staff seemed to be well in over their heads, they were attentive and served our food just as we had asked for it!

Totally underwhelmed by this place. Seating is quick, staff is friendly, good coffee. But I ordered an omelet and it came out with about 1/4c of grease on the plate. My friends omelet was the same way. There wasn't anything spectacular about the food.... And as a gluten free diner I didn't see a lot of options for me. I think the prices were steep for the portions.

I love it here! It's a fun atmosphere with a nice staff. The chairs and tables are all a little unique with patterns or the high table option. I went for the first time for the Easter brunch and it was good and I liked it, but wanted to try it on a regular day. I went back about 3 weeks ago and it was even better! There is a full coffee menu for those who are Starbucks/cafe go-ers. I had an omelette and coffee and the sides were all good. I love brunch so I was happy to find another place besides the Waffle Shop.

Brightly colored and comfortable the Naked Egg is becoming a breakfast hot spot in State College. As others have observed, the Waffle Shop has long been the breakfast destination of choice for many, but the Naked Egg is a strong new contender. We were seated quickly and our server was quick to take drink orders, but was slow to return for orders as we were chatting with the manager and amongst ourselves...mostly our fault, but we got hungry waiting. Only oddity was no lemons. They serve ice water and they serve tea, but they do not have lemons. I had the Piggly Wiggly omelet with Gouda cheese and rye toast. It had ham, bacon, and sausage in a golden, perfectly cooked omelet. The Gouda was a $0.75 up charge but it made all the difference. A splash of Cholula hot sauce really took it over the top. Instead of home fries, they serve tater tots and they were cooked crispy, not greasy. Had a lovely pot of chai tea with my meal. My wife had a western omelet with she enjoyed, my mother in law enjoyed her french toast and crispy bacon. I heard the coffee was good too. The table behind us was in for lunch and the sandwiches looked good. Other menu surprises were Scottish eggs and homemade banana bread. They were out of banana bread but I will try both on my next visit. We will be back.

Friday morning 11:00 am we visit for the first time. We stood in the doorway for 5 minutes before one of the three waitstaff bothered to look at us. They all saw us walk in and ignored us. There were two empty tables available. The entrance is tight. So we wait until a waitress, who was on her way outside with an order of food, smiles, stops and says someone will be right with us. Another 2 mins later we are seated. Our waiter, who was very pleasant, did not look healthy. The skin of his nose looked like raw open skin, he had what looked like piercings that looked infected. How completely unappetizing! How do you let someone who looks sick serve food?! How is this ok?!! He had brown blotches on his forehead. Were they scars? Were they healing infections? Whether or not he was ill, he should NOT be handling food or dealing with people who are going to eat! What is wrong with the restaurant owners in this area? The quality of servers in these restaurants is the lowest of the low. The waiter was a great guy but should he be serving? Absolutely not. The food was ok. Nothing great or wonderful. The 'build your own' omelet was odd, the fillings were plopped onto the eggs and then the eggs folded over them, not cooked with the eggs. So that says assembly line to me. The eggs were lukewarm, the filling was barely warm. Same for others I was with. One of our party ordered huevos rancheros. The black beans were dried out, the chopped tomatoes were dry. That says to me this stuff is sitting around in hotel pans, not freshly cooked. The toast wasn't even toasted, just barely warm. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. And at $38 for 3 people, I doubt we will return. But the coffee was very good. I am waiting for the day when a REAL diner opens here in Centre County. I continue to hope.

The Naked Egg Cafe is a model that all businesses should use if they want to be successful. This non-chain succeeds at delivering a warm, cozy atmosphere with great food at an affordable price and without compromising spectacular service. Everyone is treated like a regular and likely to return. It's the best breakfast place we found in the State College area and a must for all ages looking for a quality breakfast that's at least two grades above familiar spots like Cracker Barrel and a grade above the Waffle Stop with people here seem to love. The first thing we noticed here was that everything appears to be made on site, rather than warmed or purchased from a food distributor. The potatoes taste like they were sliced on site, the pancakes and waffles are awesome and I'd challenge you to find anything on the menu that isn't done well. This is a go-to breakfast spot for college students, families and friends, but keep in mind, it's a small place, so you might be in for a wait.

Nice small family owned breakfast spot! I was told to come here for the eggs benedict and I would definitely recommend those. The restaurant doesn't have tables for large seating so I would recommend going with a group no larger than 6 people so that you guys can sit comfortably. Either way, the staff is very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast food is definitely great! When I had went i ordered the Salmon Benedict and that consists of an english muffin, salmon and a poached egg (you get two of salmon benedicts) along with 2 asparagus. I also ordered their mocha caffe. Ambiance is medium loudness and they have large windows that allow for some natural lighting to come in. Tips - Come early on the weekends, this place can get packed easily and the wait can go up to 30 mins or more. They do accept most credit cards except for American Express.

I just don't get what folks line up for here. I've had their italian sub...meh. I'd rather have Jersey Mikes or most of the hoagie places downtown. I've had their breakfast...you all realize it's just eggs? You could replicate these things at home, for way, way less. The view from inside is nice. That's about it.

Party of six. Made to wait hour and half. The place wasn't even full. If we were warned about the wait we would have left. Unapologetic service. Borderline rude. Very disappointed. Ruined everyone's weekend morning.

Stopped in for breakfast with my family. The staff is attentive and the food comes out fast. Great coffee ,Eggs Benedict is top notch and so is the corned beef hash. Bagel and lox is pretty darn good also.

Best brunch/breakfast spot around. But you'll need to get there early if you don't want to wait in a long line for a table. You may be tempted to stick with the Eggs Benedict, but try the Benedict Florentine and the Huevos Rancheros. You won't be sorry. One of my favorite places to eat in State College.

Nice cute little breakfast/brunch/lunch place just right outside of state college. Personally, I am not really a breakfast kind of person, so I came for lunch. Nonetheless, the breakfast/brunch food looks tempting even to me. Why do people even go to the waffle shop anyway? Oh yeah, name and tradition, but not substance. Inside: looks cozy and inviting. Outside patio: Flowery. Good selection of caffeine laced drinks; good tea and coffee. So I got the cod sandwich with side cole slaw. The dressing on the slaw is both light and creamy. That cole slaw was the star of my meal; very flavorful. The cod sandwich was delicious, and the fried cod was way bigger than the buns, which did make it a bit difficult to handle. An 8-inch sub would've been easier. The sandwich was flavorful. Also, there are at least 4-5 items on the menu that I want to try. Thus, I will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Went here over Arts Fest weekend to avoid the crowds closer to State College. I got the hash with poached egg and it was very good. I am usually wary of ordering poached eggs as they are usually served sopping wet, but these were well executed. The only downside was the service. The waiter had to return twice to ask what our drink orders were (waiters, write things down! No one is impressed that you can remember four orders, especially when they come out wrong). Hopefully the service was an isolated incident.

This has to be the best breakfast spot in the area. So good. Fresh with just the right about of guilt. I got a build your own omelet and all the toppings were FRESH. The hash browns and toast were also good and cooked perfectly. Unlike most restaurants, they have a coffee menu with specialty items and the coffee was very good. The other dish we got was the hot mess everything was enjoyed. The actual restaurant is small and gets very packed. It was a Weekend morning for us and we arrived before the rush, but when we left it was too busy for comfort. I'd imagine there would be a long wait at prime times. Besides that, the service was good and friendly. The place is clean and a pretty cute atmosphere. I hope I have a chance to go back and try the florentine Benedict!!

As a Torontonian, I LOVE ME SOME BRUNCH - the Naked Egg not only easily meets all of my expectations, it also puts the other options in State College to shame. First of all, this place is cute: bright interior, white painted brick wall, lime green teacups - just adorbs. The menu is perfectly balanced between breakfast and lunch, backed up by a solid espresso/tea selection. Feeling more on the savory side today, I opted for the mushroom veggie wrap, accompanied by sweet potato chips. The wrap hit all the marks: juicy portabello mushrooms, perfectly melted cheese, generous amounts of spinach, and big sweet strips of roasted red pepper. The sweet potato chips were simply perfect: thinly sliced, and very crisp. Service was prompt, unobtrusive and friendly. I will absolutely return to try the many other menu items that caught my eye!

Awful. We waited over 10 min on a Tuesday to be seated. When we were seated our very non-friendly middle aged waitress took our order. We ordered Steak and Eggs , Omelet and a Burger. Steak was requested to be medium rare, came rare with the eggs so uncooked the white discharge leaked on the plate mixing with blood of the steak. Tater tots were OK. The only thing they couldn't ruin on the plate was the rye bread. Congrats. Omelet included onions, tomato, mushroom, green peppers and bacon. Another mediocre win for this sad establishment. The waitress, probably knowing the awefullness of the food threw the plate in front of the hungry customer and walked off without even looking as the fries flew of the plate and on to the chipped surface of the table. Neighboring tables stared with shock as we did. In hindsight it wasn't a loss for the composition of the order that the fries were unconsumable, since they were unmistakably uncooked. Yunnan noir tea, regular coffe and orange juice were consumable. Will not come here ever again.

Omelet you in on a little secret, this place is eggcelent! The parking was kind of a scramble but it was worth it! There's lots of choices on the menu but if you don't see what you want just ask! They will make something eggstra special for you! The home fries are eggstremely good! If you get here during the rush, you're toast! But don't worry, the lovely staff makes the rush over-easy!

One of my favorite breakfast places! I almost always pop in when I'm in town. The staff is great and their food is amazing. I've had a few different meals and they were all great...The burrito and the Florentine Benedict are my favorite! Of course you'll want to get a side of tots! They also serve Chicken Oysters which are very popular. I don't eat pork, but everyone always gets one when we're there. It's an egg wrapped in sausage and breading and then deep-fried. The prices are great, the portions are generous and the food is always delicious!

By far one of the best eggs benedict I have ever had. Owner was also a very lovely person, however the only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is because of a rude waitress (not mine) who was very snappy and unpleasant to my friend who was just trying to pay the bill.

Another great meal. The Eggs Benedict was AMAZING. Finished with a cup of fruit drizzled in honey and I left satified. Their tea selection is lovley as well. Always excited to come back.

We've gone several times because the food is great, but they seem to be struggling with staffing. When they first opened they had a real barista, but now they just have an espresso machine and somebody to run it. I just recently went mid-week and was disappointed that the service wasn't improving. Simple things like refilling coffee, making sure jelly is on the table for my croissant and a little friendliness were lacking. It's a trip out of town I used to think was worth it, but I've been burned three times by bad service. The food is awesome, whether you're looking for traditional breakfast fare or something more interesting.

Went to the Naked Egg this morning. After waiting 20 minutes to be seated and 40 minutes to get food, my order came out wrong. This is not the first time. I am allergic to dairy and both times I have eaten there and asked for no cheese on my meal it has come out just as it was listed on the menu. I am not sure if it is a problem with the servers or the cooks but it is unacceptable. While the manager did offer to have my meal remade, I was not willing to chance having to wait another 40 minutes to get food. I was also with friends so I would have had to either watch them eat or have them let their food get cold while waiting with me for them to get the order right. I walked out today and I won't be returning to this establishment.

The Naked Egg is serving up the American dream. Small kitchen, local owners, local food - equals an absolutely satisfying meal in every way. Tired of waiting in line for the same old stuff? Head to the naked egg for real variety. Hot Mess - best grits north of Mason Dixon line. More refined taste? Try any of the Benedicts (except for the Benedict Arnold - traitor!) Folks seem to like the home fries here, but I'm all about the Tots! Heck yes, tater tots on the menu. You may still have to wait in line, as there's a pretty consistent one on weekends. Darn good coffee, and if you're a tea lover like me, you'll get your own loose leaf pot! Proud to be an American? Eat here.

The Naked Egg Cafe is a bit of a drive from campus, but wow is it worth it. We were in town visiting my brother for the weekend, and decided to go out for brunch. We were driving behind him, and were like, "Where is he taking us?". It took about 15 minutes to get there from Beaver Ave. We were a larger party of 6 people, so we had to wait a little while for a table. There were a couple other groups of this size, but they can only accommodate 2 groups of 6 at a time. The restaurant is not that big. They have a nice selection of teas, I ordered a pot of green tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have free refills on the coffee, which is nice. I ordered "The Whole Farm" which is two eggs, choice of meat (ham, bacon, sausage), choice of hash browns or tater tots, and toast or an English muffin. The eggs were delicious and cooked perfectly. The bacon and toast were good, but those tater tots! The tater tots were extremely crispy and were not greasy at all. They were pure perfection! Many other restaurants charge an up-charge for tater tots, but not here. And I thought the meal prices were very reasonable. My family also ordered another The Whole Farm, two omelets, a stack of pancakes and the Florentine Benedict. Everyone loved their food and it disappeared quickly. The service was very good. Our waitress (who I believe is also the owner) was extremely attentive and was refilling our drinks before they could even be emptied. An enjoyable experience all around. I hope to dine here again when we're back for graduation in May!

This review is a bit late coming since I visited over two months ago, but I felt compelled to come back and write a review just because my experience was awesome and really wanted to share. My funds for eating out are limited, but I was treated this time! I can honestly say that the next time I do splurge on a meal out, this will be high on my list to try again. I always thought that I liked the greasy spoon restaurants. I would anticipate the greasy home fries at the Waffle Shop and generally enjoyed my standard breakfast (especially since I didn't have to cook it). Well...I'm afraid that I will no longer be satisfied with just the Waffle Shop. I was shown the light at The Naked Egg Cafe. One thing I typically don't order at a restaurant is Eggs Benedict. It just seems like this dish is never done right. It's either much too heavy with a broken sauce or the eggs are overdone (or underdone). Since I had heard good things about The Naked Egg, I thought I'd give it the eggs benedict "test". They not only passed with flying colors, but they elevated my expectations for this dish. The eggs were done perfectly and had just the right amount of a nice light perfectly seasoned sauce that workedd by complementing the beautiful yolk of the egg instead of overpowering it. It was served with the lightest, most UN-greasiest home fries that I have ever eaten along with three perfectly cooked asparagus spears. The service that we received was very good. Our server delivered delicous coffee quickly and we were also well attended to by a very sweet (and very young) bus boy. Next visit, I'm looking forward to seeing if this service will be consistent. Also worth noting is that this reastaurant seems to have an expresso bar with all sorts of specialty drinks. I'm a plain old coffee kind of gal, but thought many other yelpers would love to know. They also have a call ahead breakfast service where you just phone in and they will have a breakfast sandwich and coffee to go waiting for you when you arrive for under $6. Finally, on prices I would say that my meal was a great value. The prices are slightly higher than the Naked Egg's biggest competitor (The Waffle Shop), but considering the higher quality, I'd still say that the Naked Egg is the better value. The best thing was seeing a small little locally owned establishment in Pine Grove Mills that is well out of the State College completely packed. It's refreshing to know that providing great food, great service and great prices pays off!

I was visiting a friend in State College, and we decided to check out this place. Even though it was very crowded, and we waited for at least 45 minutes to get in and then another 30 minutes to get the food after ordering (it was brunch time on a Sunday, and the college was having a big game, so we understood it was extra long that day), this traditional Pennsylvanian food was so good that it was worth the wait! The staff was courteous and clearly working very hard to accommodate everyone. I had the classic Eggs Benedict, a side of tots, and some "scrapple" - ok that last one was interesting; I had never heard about it before and needed to try it. I would come back here when I come to visit my friend again in the future! Thank you!

I've been twice, so I've given it two fair shots. The first time I waited about an hour to be seated. I thought the food was decent and the coffee was good. I wasn't impressed with how the hostess ignored us for a good half hour (she was rushing around) and so we didn't get our name written down until then. Once seated our waiter visited us all of four times to refill our coffee and forgot my tater tots (which I paid $2 for and got mayybe 15 tater tots). I also paid too much for 3 blueberry pancakes the size of dessert plates (aka really small) and 15 freaking tator tots. I went again today and got eggs benedict. It wasn't nearly as crowded and we were served immediately. The waitress forgot my coffee and our silverware. I had to go get some from neighboring tables because she was also running around and we couldn't get her attention. My eggs and scotch egg (which I ate immediately) I ordered were cold by the time I got to try them. The eggs benedict also said they came with asparagus.... Which is a lie, I got tomatoes. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food but I won't be back here for an astronomical price ($16 for coffee, eggs benedict, and ONE scotch egg? pleeaseee). And they upcharge you $0.40 for a poached egg. Whaaattt. Don't go here. I mean, the food's good but not at that price (or in such a small quantity). Waffle shop is just as nice. And they don't give you cream for your coffee in tiny ass pitchers.

So four stars will seem unreasonable given what I am about to write. This is my new favorite breakfast place in State College. To my mind it tops Elk Creek brunch. First what I loved the most: the decors. This place, despite its location off of Highway 45, is unbelievably cute. I could not hear the cars passing by. The internal architecture really works well with the needs of the location. The lighting was great, and the coffee bar is a really nice touch. The espresso menu is comprehensive, and the espresso drinks are awesome (seriously awesome). Second, what I liked a lot. My roommate ate the eggs benedict and these were really good. The menu has lots of options, without being overwhelming. There is a distinct local flavor to the items, but these mash well with other items that are rarer to find in the area, such as huevos rancheros, smoked salmon eggs benedict, and the breakfast burrito. Third what I liked less. My breakfast burrito was nondescript, but having grown up in California, it is difficult to match. Even then, not clearly a trend setter even by state college standards. To conclude: GO! I gave a four star rating due to my disappointing breakfast burrito, but the decors, the eggs benedict, the range of options make this place a must-go. Also, I have had no problems with the servers.

I didn't actually get to try the food here, because I was turned away at 1:31 pm on Sunday even though their Yelp hours are until 2 pm. It makes zero sense that a breakfast place would be open later on weekdays than weekends.

You are better off going to the waffle shop for breakfast. Nothing special (good food) but it is slow. Went during blue white weekend.

For this town, this place is great. I do wish they rotated some veggie options on the menu for breakfast/brunch. I like the burrito/huevos/eggs florentine, but sometimes wish there were a veggie special thrown in. The fruit cup is a bit overpriced, but other menu items and sides (pancake, french toast, etc) seem a little low, so total bill ends up being fine. Tater tots are awesome, as are the potatoes (!!).

  • Elizabeth S.

Awesome place...very cool interior decorating. Food was delicious as well. I had the eggs Benedict which was very tasty. And the presentation was phenomenal. My friend had an omelette with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns are incredible. I would go back just to get those. I particularly liked how laid back the atmosphere was...service was fast and friendly!

  • Anthony W.

Didn't see what all the fuss was about. I heard this place was better than the waffle shop which is a huge compliment. I had the Eggs Benedict which were good including the sauce which was better than the waffle shop. But everything else was bland. Frozen tater tots as home fries? Sausage was so thin and dried out. Watress never came to check to see if our food was OK. ( I would have sent the sausage back but at some point you give up) The Espresso bar was nice and I picked up pretty good Macchiato.

Out of town spot in the countryside. Fabulous everything! I got the poached eggs with salmon. Coffee was great. Service was great. We got there Sunday at 9am on Arts Fest weekend, just before the line got really long. Go early or be prepared to wait for this popular place, on a busy weekend.

4 stars for food, 0 stars for service. They really should hire better servers for such a trendy place. This was by far the worst service I've ever had in state college. I don't hold it against the restaurant, but they need better staff. The owner is as sweet as can be, and checked on us multiple times despite their awful excuse for a waitress. I had the Florentine Benedict, it was really different and tasty. I would recommend going here for the food and atmosphere, but I can't say I would go back because the service ruined my experience. But hey, maybe they'll fire her. Dress light, its hot in here! Oh, and you'll only get one water, so drink it slowly!

I have been to the Naked Egg a handful of times. I love having another breakfast alternative and a variety of menu choices not available elsewhere. The food has been good to excellent. The salmon Benedict and tater tots were outstanding. However, the service has been mediocre on more than one occasion. I really hope improvements are made soon in that department. I am so pleased to update my review with good news ! Today the service was so much better and the food remains quite good.

This is an outstanding breakfast and yes the hash and cheesy grits are exceptional. To all of our friends visiting for PSU games...have breakfast here! By the way, service was very good. Very busy and that means good food!

The local breakfast king has long been The Original Waffle Shop, but The Naked Egg has emerged not simply as a rival, but as the new breakfast champion. The food at the Naked Egg takes longer to arrive at the table than does food at the Waffle Shop, but the time is well worth it for the quality. My wife had the Salmon Benedict, which was nicely prepared with two perfectly cooked poached eggs and hollandaise sauce that was not too heavy. Speaking of perfectly cooked eggs, my daughter had a side of sunny-side up eggs that were beautifully presented and full of flavor. I had an omelette with well done home fries. The home fries were amazing: small pieces of potato, onion and peppers, crispy and not at all greasy. The home fries at the Waffle Shop are excellent, but these were even better. The atmosphere at the Naked Egg is also very nice, with bright green walls, red furniture and windows all around. And to top it off, unlike the Waffle Shop, the Naked Egg actually takes credit cards.

Went to Naked Egg twice in a row! Their home fries are YUM. The burrito is beyond filling. My friend ordered the waffle. It was so light and wonderful. It came with syrup and fresh whipped cream and butter. The presentation is very elegant. The service is so cordial and friendly. We saw them serving the ostrich to somebody. Definitely need to go there again to check it out. The prices are extremely reasonable. The only reason they get 4 stars and not 5 is because of the space. On a weekend it will get busy really quickly. They take credit cards. Definitely a great addition to our small town.

Who doesn't love to go out for breakfast on the weekend? Unfortunately I wasn't satisfied with the breakfast options state college had to offer until I found this place. While this place may not be located in the heart of downtown it is definitely worth the 10 minute drive to enjoy some of their delicious breakfast options. I had a veggie omelet that was both satisfying and delicious. Definitely going to be back to try some more breakfast options.

The breakfast menu is okay... No pancakes and no mention of where ingredients are sourced, though I see on their website that the coffee is from a local roaster, Standing Stone. I had the Benedict which tasted great - hollandaise sauce was nice, but it came with two sprigs of asparagus (in November, in Pennsylvania). The plate was a bit sparse - why not serve some home-fries as a side? The atmosphere was just okay, some music in the background may have helped the scene feel a bit more like a happening weekend brunch place. Service was not good. We had to ask twice for utensils, and the check-ins were less than enough to keep us moving through the meal and payment. I really wanted to love this place, and with a few changes I think it could be much better.

I really rate the experience as 3.5, better than average, but not great. Would have given it a 4, but had to add toast to my eggs & corn beef hash order. I don't get why toast is not included with all egg dishes. Breakfast servings on the small side. A good solid breakfast with great coffee, but no real wow factor.

A wonderful addition - just out of the way enough to keep it from having a line around the block, delicious food and coffee, comfortable ambiance, a pleasant staff, and good prices. I'm sorry it took us so long to get out there. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a great place to have breakfast. I love eggs benedict and this place offers a great eggs benedict and the asparagus spears that accompanied the meal were done to my liking (nice and crisp and not mushy at all). The Florentine Benedict is another favorite of mine and comes with grilled portabella and spinach. The wait staff is very friendly and I have always had great service. I have not had the chance to dine here for lunch or dinner so I can not comment on that part.

For those of us interested in paying for our breakfast with those newfangled conveyances the credit card (get with it Waffle Shop) the Naked Egg Café is, hands down, the best breakfast food in State College. First of all, their coffee game puts even the Waffle Shop to shame. As someone who downs 3+ cups of coffee during an eating-out breakfast, coffee is a major factor in my breakfast formula. They also have an extensive coffee menu that I have yet to take advantage of. But the real oomph is the menu. Their blueberry pancakes are thick, yet moist, and go great with their syrup. Their selection of toasts are incredible. But for me, the game changer is the Hot Mess. It's perfectly seasoned shrimp on top of gooey, cheesy grits, toped with thick, sausage gravy, two eggs, and toasts. For being a Southern Boy, it just doesn't get a lot better than grits. The food is about the same price, or a little more than the Waffle Shop, but what you get is sometimes leaps and bounds better. However, there is a storm cloud over the Naked Egg's picnic, and that's the level of service that we have all come to know and love in State College. The restaurant was pretty busy this past Sunday, but the fact that our waitress only made it to our table to 1) get drink orders, 2) take the food order, and 3) leave the check. You might notice that conspicuously missing is running her own food, or checking on the table. Now this might sound like nitpicking, but I happened to have this same waitress on two separate occasion, once very early when there were only a handful of table, and again on this busier occasion. Both times, the service was this dismal. Despite the State College-level of service, the quality of food makes it worth putting up with.

This is a great place. Between my boyfriend and I, we ordered a Whole Farm (I got home fries, toast, poached eggs, and sausage), a Florentine Benedict (spinach and mushroom rather than the usual ham), a side blueberry pancake, and a pot of apple chai. Everything was awesome and very reasonably priced. When I go to the Waffle Shop, I feel like I'm on a conveyor belt of them trying to get me out in order to squeeze more people in. The Naked Egg feels much more low key, although they were really busy (hey, it was mother's day and graduation weekend). Everything came out really quickly and had a nice presentation in addition to being delicious. If I go back, I'd get a huge plate of pancakes or waffles-- the blueberry pancake was so good. Fluffy yet dense enough to really absorb the syrup. The home fries were also great. Sausage was fine but nothing special. Portions are a little smaller than other breakfast places, which is just fine for me. I really recommend the tea too. This is definitely worth the drive.

Let me echo the positive reviews on this place. We wrote a very positive review on Tripadvisor back in the Fall, and have finally become active on Yelp as well. So, here we are. The food at the Naked Egg is terrific. I love the home made corn beef hash, and the eggs benedict is among the best I have had. Thinly sliced and nicely browned ham, with perfect poached eggs (never TOO DONE) and a wonderful hollandaise sauce...why can't everyone pull this off? And my wife is in heaven over the salmon benedict, that is, when she is not ordering the blueberry pancakes, which are also pretty darn good. They also serve lunch, and the menu looks good so we need to give it a try sometime. When this place opened, we wondered how well it would fare against the Waffle Shop down the street, which is a pretty awesome place for breakfast, not to mention a local tradition of sorts. The trick, it appears, was to go upscale, with better coffees and a more uptown menu, which is a welcome addition to the State College scene. As some reviewers have noted, the service could be a bit spotty in the past, but they appear to have upped their game in this regard. The only issue is that parking can be a problem on weekends. But, then, I suppose that is a consequence of others sharing our high regard for this place. Worth the drive to Pine Grove Mills, for sure.

A lot of other people are comparing this to The Waffle Shop but I think that's a bit of a stretch. The Waffle Shop is more like a local iHop and The Naked Egg is more cozy. We arrived for early brunch. It was pretty busy but they were able to seat us right away. The owner and staff were fantastic and very good with our friend's two year old son. They were very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and didn't take long to arrive even though the place was packed. We all enjoyed it and look forward to making it a regular spot.

We love The Naked Egg Cafe!! What a cute, intimate restaurant with a eclectic menu. I have never been there for lunch as we always go for breakfast/brunch. Their regular Eggs Benedict is great, but if you like Salmon I highly recommend their Salmon Eggs Benedict. Their pancakes are great, as well and they have a wide variety of teas and special coffees (I love getting their cappuccinos as it always comes in a large mug). The staff is always friendly and they are always packed. Definitely make this a regular stop!!

The Naked Egg is exactly what Pine Grove and State College needs. A local place that offers good food at fair and reasonable prices. The selection is wonderful and the food is cooked to order. Every server that we have ever had has been attentive and personable. It's the kind of place that people wish they could have down the street from them. Thank you

Love. The owner is so awesome - and her staff rocks! Get the breakfast potatoes crispy - sooo good. Fresh squeezed OJ, great coffee menu, and the chicken oyster is a MUST! Really cute decor too.

Firstly, I will refrain from comparing it to the Waffle Shop. There needs to be as many brunch options as possible. But into the food: great selection! I was very happy with the breakfast burrito, but I'm dying to go back to try the chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and scotch egg. They say they have various types of coffee. By this they mean espresso, but the house coffee is good. Service was great, no wait, and coffee was free-flowing. Going again ASAP

One of my favorite things in the world is breakfast out with my family. This experience at The Naked Egg Cafe set a new standard for my family and I. My kids (8, 6 & 4) professed, "this is the best breakfast EVER!!!" My wife and I couldn't agree more! My wife had the eggs Benedict, and was 100% pleased. I ha a burrito. My only regret is that I couldn't order more breakfast entrees. I guess we'll have to plan another trip back to State College. The staff/service was equally as impressive. Thank you Yelp for directing me to this gem!

I'm glad that another breakfast joint came to State College. We are lacking in that department. Everything I've had here has been tasty. Some of the food, like omelets, are a tad too buttery though. I enjoy their hash and their breakfast sandwich. I'm forgetting the name, I think it's nest egg. You can have it on a croissant. Yum!

Such a nice, refreshing change from the Waffle Shop! The 10 minute drive into the country is worth it. I'm not a coffee drinker but my friends at the table said the coffee was really good. The waitress said it comes from a local price - Huntingdon (which is just over the mountain) This review is after my third experience. The first visit, I had French toast. The next two visits I ordered The Whole Farm. Both choices are great. The food is cooked to order and comes out pretty quickly, even on busy days. The drinks come with free refills, and the service is nice. Oh, and they will accept your credit card, unlike the Waffle Shop. Lastly, the decor and atmosphere are unlike any other restaurant in State College. I look forward to many more trips here. Give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.

By far one of the best eggs benedict I have ever had. Owner was also a very lovely person, however the only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is because of a rude waitress (not mine) who was very snappy and unpleasant to my friend who was just trying to pay the bill.

I didn't actually get to try the food here, because I was turned away at 1:31 pm on Sunday even though their Yelp hours are until 2 pm. It makes zero sense that a breakfast place would be open later on weekdays than weekends.

Their pancakes are great, as well and they have a wide variety of teas and special coffees (I love getting their cappuccinos as it always comes in a large mug). The staff is always friendly and they are always packed. Definitely make this a regular stop!!

Great place for brunch or breakfast on a sunny morning/afternoon. Sat outside& the service and food was amazing. Highly recommend for mornings with parents, significant others, or close friends.

Party of six. Made to wait hour and half. The place wasn't even full. If we were warned about the wait we would have left. Unapologetic service. Borderline rude. Very disappointed. Ruined everyone's weekend morning.

Eat here.

Great place for lunch. It gets filled up quickly. Great food, and OK service. Will recommend it.

Another great meal. The Eggs Benedict was AMAZING. Finished with a cup of fruit drizzled in honey and I left satified. Their tea selection is lovley as well. Always excited to come back.

Eat here.

Thank you!

The first thing you notice when walking into The Naked Egg Café is a friendly and cozy atmosphere. The service was attentive and extremely friendly. The menu was very extensive and provided a lot of flexibility to design your own breakfast. The food was fresh and outstanding. I would highly recommend "The Naked Egg" ...looking forward to coming back again !!!
